Denodo’s solutions are the only ones which search the invisible Web
The Polytechnic University of Madrid chooses Denodo to power a Technology Watch System
The Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) will use Denodo’s search and enterprise information integration technology to provide information about new developments in information technology which can be used to define R&D strategies and increase productivity to businesses within the Autonomous Region of Madrid via business organizations.
Madrid, June 13, 2006. Denodo Technologies, a company specializing in
integrating information in real time, announces that the UPM, via
the Technology Watch Section of its Research Results Transfer Office
(OTRI), has chosen its real-time enterprise information integration
technology to complement the service it offers through the
Information Technology and Communications Innovation Circle (CITIC),
which is part of madri+d.
Since it was started in 2001, CITIC has provided companies - in
particular, small and medium-sized companies - within the Autonomous
Region of Madrid with technological information which has helped
them in their decision-making processes to direct their strategy and
their investment in R&D. The ultimate objective of CITIC is to
increase business productivity and generate new lines of business
thanks to the introduction and use of Technology Watch techniques
applied to their business processes.
CITIC is one of the four Innovation Circles started by madri+d to
promote Technology Watch and Competitive Intelligence practices in
companies within the Autonomous Region of Madrid in different
technology areas and to encourage cooperation and knowledge transfer
between companies and research groups. The University’s Research
Results Transfer Office has managed the Information Technology and
Communications Innovation Circle from the start. It has at its
disposal technical personnel who are specially trained in Technology
Watch techniques and professional IT tools and it has access to the
best experts in the ICT field.
Denodo’s unique technology
To be able to fulfill one of its functions. i.e. keeping companies
in Madrid informed as to developments in ICT applicable to their
businesses, the Information Technology and Communications Innovation
Circle gathers information from multiple sources and distributes it.
Until now, this very time-consuming function was not automated.
Therefore, the UPM decided to look for a technology which would
allow the information-gathering process to be done automatically.
After studying what other companies in the market were offering, the
UPM selected Denodo’s technology because it was the only one which
enabled searching on the invisible Web and because of its
flexibility when adding sources.
The solution which Denodo will introduce at the UPM is based on two
Denodo products: ITPilot 3.1 and Aracne 3.1. Denodo ITPilot is the
only tool available on the market which extracts and structures
information from dynamic Web sites. It allows operations and
extractions from Web sources to be automated. It is calculated that
there is 500 times more information available on the invisible Web
than on the visible Web (i.e. which traditional search engines
access). Denodo’s tool is the only one on the market which provides
access to the invisible Web.
Denodo Aracne is an advanced Web crawling, indexing and searching
software which covers every type of document and data source:
structured, semi-structured and unstructured (HTML, XML, PDF,
Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.).
As standard tools are involved, the software installation, which
will be carried out by Denodo, will be straightforward and is
expected to be operational by the end of June.
