Data Virtualization and Data Modeling/Governance Tools

Data Virtualization provides a fully self-contained graphical development and testing environment for virtual data modeling, integration and data services publishing. At the same time, Data Virtualization works with external data modeling and data governance tools at both design time and runtime:

  • The data models and relationships in Data Virtualization are easily visible to other data modeling tools to introspect and understand using standard connections as though Data Virtualization is just another data source.
  • Pre-defined external data models, including canonical models, reference data models, industry-standard packaged models, etc., can be imported into the Data Virtualization layer as interface views. This can represent ‘target models’ from a top-down modeling perspective to match with bottom-up source integration.
  • An extension of this interface views and top-down modeling is ‘contract-first web services’ where web services catalogued and managed in a SOA environment are matched exactly by Data Virtualization platform.
  • Data Virtualization models can be exported and interchanged – with some modifications – in other data modeling and data integration tools.
  • The data services and integrations in Data Virtualization can be version-controlled and developed in parallel with other data management and development environments. Furthermore, once the data services are moved to a production environment, they can be managed in API Management and Security Management tools together with other enterprise services.
