LONDON, ENGLAND, May 3, 2016 – Denodo, the leader in data virtualization, today announced that the Erasmus University Medical Center (Erasmus MC) has purchased the Denodo Platform for data virtualization to reduce costs and enable the modernization of their data management.

The Erasmus MC is the biggest university hospital of The Netherlands, averaging around 40,000 admissions and 500,000 patient visits a year. With its 10,000 FTE it is responsible for a healthy population and excellent healthcare. Currently the Erasmus MC is undergoing major change. An entire new hospital building is being constructed, reducing patient beds from around 1,100 to around 800. With the new hospital, the way the Erasmus MC provides care will also change, moving from patient wards and generic diagnostic treatment towards single patient rooms and personalized and evidence based medicine.

Besides these important changes, the Erasmus MC is also investing in a new Electronic Health Record, replacing at least 250 dispersed applications. This will also result in significant changes in the information landscape. Due to these changes it has been decided that the entire Business Intelligence & Analytics environment should be modernized, making it easier to provide the right data and information at the right time in the right way. The goal of this endeavor is to create a future-proof platform, from which doctors, staff members, researchers, and others can access the data with the tools they choose. Apart from a way towards agile data providing, this platform will also deliver important Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), which will be used throughout the important management layers within the organization.

The Denodo Platform for data virtualization will enable Erasmus to build a modern data architecture which will reduce costs and project cycle times, and allow them to access and present information in single views to their data consumers in the format of their choice.

“The Erasmus project is an example of how data virtualization can help organizations improve their overall performance and efficiencies in a strategic manner,” said Angel Vina, Founder and CEO, Denodo. "We are committed to helping our customers leverage data virtualization as an abstraction layer across broad use case patterns and look forward to helping Erasmus to derive great value from their data virtualization efforts and generate demonstrable ROI.”
