The AI Trust Gap Report by Denodo, based on a survey of 850 enterprise leaders, finds that while AI is rapidly evolving into “agentic” systems capable of autonomous decision-making, organisations are falling short in three critical areas: access to live data, identifying the right data, and implementing governance guardrails.

As powerful as it is proving to be, AI is a bit of a “black box.” Often, its inner processing is opaque to even its own developers. This is unacceptable, from an AI ethics standpoint. If we want AI that is free of bias and the ability to act in harmful ways, then we need to be able to see inside that black box. Beyond that, we need to create active guardrails that effectively prevent unwanted AI activity. This is even more important now that AI is outgrowing its chatbot capabilities to become fully agentic and autonomous.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is evolving from chatbots into fully autonomous systems capable of reasoning, using tools, and executing multistep workflows. These new AI agents don't just summarize policies and other rote tasks (as powerful as these abilities can be); they can also perform such complex tasks as initiating claims adjustments, negotiating subrogation settlements, or updating risk profiles in real time.
