Bayer Crop Science believes that feeding the world and restoring the planet must go hand-in-hand. The Bayer division believes that the world’s farmers need to grow by 50% by 2050 to feed, clothe and fuel the growing demand. The division also believes that technology must serve as the foundation for increasing crop production.
Solving World Hunger, One Dataset at a Time
In service of its overarching mission, Bayer Crop Science, LATAM needed to meet the growing demand for seeds and chemicals, while optimizing production and streamlining supply. To that end, the division modernized its data infrastructure to include Google BigQuery as a central cloud data warehouse.
However, Bayer Crop Science still struggled to deliver data to business users, as BigQuery requires SQL knowledge, which many business users lacked. Data was also scattered across over 20 disparate business applications, including SAP, Excel worksheets, external SaaS tools, and manufacturing-specific systems like MES and Shift Connectors.
Bayer Crop Science implemented the Denodo Platform above its entire data infrastructure, including BigQuery, which streamlined and accelerated data access, enabling self-service access to business users, effectively democratizing access to data. Supported by the Denodo Platform, Bayer Crop Science accelerated time-to-value, saved time, and reduced costs.
With these improvements at the data management level, Bayer Crop Science is making faster progress towards achieving its central, driving goal, “hunger for none.”
